    TEACHERS’ PERCEPTIONS OF DEVIANT BEHAVIOURS PREVALENCE IN SENIOR SECONDARY SCHOOLS IN MAINLAND ZONE TWO, LAGOS.

    Deviant behaviours in schools are behaviours that do not conform to the school norms, culture, rules and regulations. This study is about the teachers’ perceptions of the prevalence of deviant behaviours among the senior secondary two students in mainland zone two. The target population was all the senior secondary teachers in Mainland zone two, with 128 males and 152 female teachers. Data was collected using a self-structured questionnaire divided into two sections. Section A comprises the demographic data, while section B has 16 items. The items had subheadings, namely deviancies due to attack on school authority, deviancies relating to attacks on persons or properties, deviancies due to student’s gang attacks and deviancies relating to the poor reading study. The study was guided by one research question and two hypotheses. Mean and standard deviations were used to analyse the data while t-testing the null hypothesis at a 0.05 level of significance. Results showed no statistically significant difference between the perceptions of male and female teachers on the prevalence of deviant behaviours in schools. Still, there was a statistically significant difference in perception based on teachers’ age group. Recommendations were made, including provisions for counsellors, and regular seminars/workshops on deviant behaviours to students, school authorities, teachers and parents

    Job satisfaction status of primary school teachers in Ota

    Abstract: This descriptive survey study investigated the current job satisfaction level of primary school teachers. Two hundred and thirty-eight teachers (males 95 and females 143) randomly selected from twenty primary schools from public and private schools in Ota, Ogun State participated in the survey. An adapted version of Job Satisfaction Survey by Bellingham (2004) was employed for data generation. Data collected were analyzed using simple percentage, one way analysis of variance, and t-test-statistic. The results of the two research questions and two research hypotheses indicated that greater percentage of teachers (52.9%) were very satisfied with their job while it is also evident that female teachers were very happy with their job than male teachers. Further analysis showed that no significant difference existed on gender basis while there were significant differences on educational qualification and age groups. Consequent upon these findings it is imperative for proprietors of schools to ensure that teachers are not dissatisfied with their job through their inability to consistently provide enabling environment

    Counselling Services and Social Homes as Remediators to Challenges of Persons with Disabilities in Nigeria

    Persons with Disabilities (PWD’s) in Nigeria are faced with tons of daily challenges. These challenges range from stigmatization, discrimination, rejection and ostracization from family and friends; socialization problems, infrastructural deficit issues, exclusion and welfare needs from the society and government and also; dejection, depression, mood swing and pity from self. All these pose demeaning tendencies to their psycho-socio-cultural wellbeing. This paper seeks to advocate the provision of counseling services and also proper and adequate institutional homecare to help remediate their diverse challenges. It also tasks the legislature in Nigeria to implement policies and laws that creates enabling environment for her citizenry living with disabilities
